June 2010: Orientation musings

I'm very happy to be starting my second term as Orientation Director! I get to meet a lot of interesting people as they enter the organization. Some have been kinky for years but are taking first steps into a more public scene or community involvement, while others are relocating from other cities and excited to be exploring our wonderful area. Some are brand new to kink, and coming to an orientation is the most kinky thing they've done so far.

June 2009 Orientation: small but cozy

It's always hard to predict how many folks will actually show up at a Janus orientation. It's not uncommon for at least a third of the folks who RSVP to not show for various reasons, including the time-honored "newbie jitters" (it's a big, scary first step for many people! I remember being very nervous when I went to my orientation not so many years ago). This June's orientation turned out to have an unusually high no-show rate, so it was on the small and cozy side.

An Orientation meeting is a low-key, non-threatening forum where prospective members to the Society of Janus are presented with the rules and guidelines of the organization, and introduced to current members and to each other. Current members are always welcome and encouraged to attend.
