June 2009 Orientation: small but cozy
It's always hard to predict how many folks will actually show up at a Janus orientation. It's not uncommon for at least a third of the folks who RSVP to not show for various reasons, including the time-honored "newbie jitters" (it's a big, scary first step for many people! I remember being very nervous when I went to my orientation not so many years ago). This June's orientation turned out to have an unusually high no-show rate, so it was on the small and cozy side. While that's unfortunate from an overall community organizing perspective, it actually made for a nice, mellow, less formal event. The attendees were on the younger end of the spectrum, but ranged quite a bit in terms of experience and orientation. Every one was enthusiastic and friendly, and the event had good energy. The result: a fine if small crop of new Janus members. Welcome!

P.S.
Susan did a fine job in her new role as Orientation Director, and Jason (ex-Director, now secretary) did much better than Dick Cheney at shutting up and letting the new leadership take charge.
